BALLOONS IN BEACON

Everyone loves balloons. To get the pedestrians involved in our research, we bribed the passersbys with a fun activity, of balloons. We asked pedestrians to place a balloon on a scale of where they came from - closer to the sidewalk being from Beacon to farthest into the field - California or outside the US. As the field filled with swaying balloons, more people stopped in their tracks, leading to many results - finding out, do people visit Beacon or are they locals? Where do they come from? The balloons were a distraction to dive deeper into our research as we hoped for insight on the Hudson Valley, which lead to a larger project we call “Local Matters.”
