NYCHA, CUT THE CORNERS
Our goal is for residents to interact with each other and to change their opinion of the neighborhood. A critical point of interaction is at an intersection. Corners in Brownsville are underutilized and are an opportunity for intervention to activate the intersection. NYCHA turns its back on the corners. Entries to NYCHA campuses are between the streets. Green spaces on the campus corners are fenced off and often not accessible. Stakeholders such as New York City agencies, local businesses, community partners, and residents will collaborate with designers to take over the corner spaces. The result is short term and long term interventions that will allow for change to be just around the corner.
